Zoom & Canvas Issue With Latest Firefox Update

Classroom at HDS

Earlier this year Mozilla Firefox released an update that increased its default security and privacy settings. This update prevents tracking across sites by containing cookies to the site they originate from. Unfortunately, this becomes a problem when trying to access your Zoom meetings from Canvas.

If you receive and “Unauthorized” error message when using Zoom (or similar messages from other integrations) from inside Canvas, you are encountering this issue.

There are two ways to work around this:

  1. You can disable the feature, lowering your privacy settings globally – Not recommended
  2. You can set Firefox to allow all integrations on Canvas.

Directions for either of these methods are available from the Firefox support site.

This is not an issue with Google’s Chrome browser, so you may continue to use that normally. Safari and Edge browsers are not recommended with Canvas.
